New boat-Old prop?

Cool new forum!<br />I just bought a new rig. 1998 Angler 204CC 1997 Johnny 115SPL. The prop on it now seems correct. 5600-5700. Aluminum 3 blade. I haven't picked up the boat yet so I can't tell you the size and pitch. My question is, I kept my old SS prop from my Johnny 90HP. 12 3/8 X 17. Would it work or would I just be wasting my time trying? I just fish and cruise. No skiing or tubing so holeshot isn't an issue.<br />Thanks <br /><br />Dave

It sounds like the current prop is set up pretty good right now.<br /><br />In order to determine if it will work or not, we need to know what the size of the prop that is on it now. I'm not sure if the prop will physically fit or not but others will let you know. My thought is that it might be too small. I have a 50hp with an 11 1/2 X 19 so a 12 3/8 X 17 might be too small for a 115hp. Of course I could be wrong (yes, it's happened before).

If it was on a 90HP Johnny, it should be a 13-3/8X17...Not saying it could not have been cut down, but if it's in the 12 to 12-1/2" diameter range, good chance it's for a smaller hp.

Sorry.....13 3/8 X 17. Brain Freeeze :rolleyes: <br />I guess I can just try it and see. I would rather have a SS prop over aluminum, but it's not a necessity.

Well, I tried both. The prop on the boat was an aluminum 13.3/4 X 15. With the ss prop,(13.3/8 x 17)and 3 people plus two coolers and fishing gear she ran 52-5300 rpm wot. The extra 2" pitch acounts for this I guess. Plus the extra weight/mass of stainless maybe? Is it normal to loose some rpms with extra weight on board? Should I run it by myself to see the rpm's? I really don't want to be lugging the motor. <br /><br />Thanks again<br /><br />Dave

You want 5600+ WITH a load...you don't want to lug it when you have others on board(weight), you can always pull back a tad when you are alone.
