Hi there, I just bought a prop on offer up that was too good a deal to pass up. It's a quicksilver typhoon 14 x 19 I guess it is the mercury vensura equivalent. Is anyone using this prop on a mercreuiser 3.0? The boat is a sea ray 185 weighing in at 2700 pounds (probably 3400 with people and gear.

I don't know your new prop, but if it's a Merc., it will fit. What is the size of your current prop and # of blades? If the size/pitch is the same it should work. See if the seller will give you a test run. If you can get 4600-4800 rpm (max) at WOT, and your hole shot is acceptable, you got a bargain.

I know it will fit and my boat came from the factory with a14.25 x 19 3 blade I'm just wondering if anyone is running this prop or similar and how it performs for them. I've heard that stainless didn't work too well with the 3.0 because it's not a power monster but for as new as l and only 70 dollars I had to buy it.

Stainless has nothing to do with the prop running well on a 3.0L, it's the pitch. Slap it on and take it for a WOT run to see if you're hitting the engine's WOT RPM range 4400-4800. Best to have it at the top end of the range.

If your current aluminum 19P is performing well, the SS 19P may be too much pitch.

Expect the engine to be overloaded when going from a 3 blade to a 4 blade of the same pitch, unless there is a substantial reduction of dia. and/or blade area. What rpm was the motor attaining with the 3 blade 19"?

your 3.0 is pushing a 18.5' boat weighing 2700# that normally would get a 4.3 or a 5.0 or larger

with my 3.0 powered 16.5" boat weighing 1650#, a 19p prop is all that I could run. most of the time I had a 15p or 17p bolted on.

your low WOT is likely that your over-propped with the 19p 3 blade

Yeah that may be the case but most people with the same boat and engine and prop get a good 400 rpm higher than I'm getting so I'm still investigating if there's something up. I've checked everything other than fuel pressure and possibly exhaust restriction. The first time I changed the prop on this boat I found half of an exhaust flapper behind the prop. I never found the other half and it may be hiding somewhere I haven't seen yet. hopefully I'll get a chance to look at it closer this week.

This boat should be able to turn a normal 3 blade 19” prop no problem and perhaps even slightly beyond the max rpm rating running light. Some guys I know with similar boats like the maxum 18 and bayliner 175 with the same engine and drive are even turning 21” props.
The 4 blade is a waste of time and will also set your guide figures astray for getting the right prop.
Laser 2 3 blade props run well on these boats.
