I honestly don’t know much about props but i brought the boat with a 19 prop and i don’t think it’s getting much performance from it . It goes around 35 at 4200 rpm but i haven’t had a chance to WOT to see top end speed .what propeller is oem with this boat i heard it was 14/23

If you have a 1.81 ratio drive, your slip is at 16%, not great for a 17 footer, and at 4600 rpm you should reach at least 38 mph if your using GPS

A 17 foot boat with a 4.3, assuming it had 1.81 gearing should be able to turn 21s and 23s without trouble. Especially if it’s a vortec. My 19’ w/vortec 4.3 and that ratio turns 21s and some 23s and it goes much faster.

im wondering if someone swapped on a drive with taller gearing as a cheap fix, or if they went lower on pitch to conceal engine trouble.

What would you think would go well with the 21? 14x21?

Don’t be too concerned with diameter. Anything between 13.25 and 14.5 is fine for a boat your size. You can do a 21 or a 23 in all likelihood. I’d start with a 21. If you redline or hit the limiter, you can go up to a 23. I assume you’re using aluminum?

You haven't even made it to WOT yet, get there first before making any decisions
