[h=2]I have narrowed it down to two choices:

$1130 long shaft 2017 Yamaha Marine F 2.5 hp 4 stroke outboard 38lbs (New condition)
or
$800 long shaft "early" 2000's Mercury 2.5 hp 4 stroke outboard less than 50lbs...been totally serviced at the dealer. He listed a bunch of things that were replaced and it sounded very thorough.

I am not sure if the $800 is Mercury or Yamaha if that makes a difference. Basically is it worth the extra $330 to get the new motor?

It's not just a new motor, it's a new 4 stroke motor, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to make this call. That baby Yammi is a sweetheart!

Definitely the very first option. Being just one year old would give me extra peace of mind regarding spare parts availability compared to the much older second option...

I would go with the the Merc.... It's a Tohatsu and parts can be found easy! They are a very common motor and easy to fix....
