How much gear oil is to going into the prop shaft ?
I understand filling from the bottom till it comes out the vent hole but in the case what would prevent it from coming out the top. I squeezed the tube hard and it’s like there is blockage. What would or could block the gel/fluid
this is a 84 7.5 hp merc 6507501
thanks for any help

If you've removed that top vent plug/screw then I can't imagine what would stop the oil from coming out of that hole....maybe poke around in the hole with a light and a probe of some kind to check fo blockage?...

there is not a lot of volume in the foot on the 7.5/9.8 merc

did you cut the end of the gear lube tube to open it?

Is there a chance this engine has a second plug near the gear case vent plug, that's used when rinsing the engine, that you've removed by mistake?

Soooo now that I pulled a dump ass move like that
if there is a little grease in the gear case, it won’t hurt anything adding the “gear oil” on top of it will it??

If it's just an ounce or so, I'd fill it with the proper oil, run it for about 10 minutes on a hose, then drain and re-fill. Ya might want to do this a few times just to make sure it's all out. A small amount won't hurt it I think.

And don't feel stupid. We want to help, and glad we got it sorted out. If you don't ask questions, it may lead to bigger issues.

You might put an air hose in the vent hole to try and " blow" that grease out of the bottom hole.....but that 2-4-C is Way heavy for that gear box and wouldn't circulate well at all. Walmart carries Marine Lower Unit Oil for about $3 a tube or you can buy a quart and the pump( from Walmart) and pump your oil into the unit....that's how lots of folks do it...

Before you try flushing it, take a bit of that grease and see how it mixes with actual gear oil. You might need to use a solvent to thin the grease so it can be flushed. Heating the gearcase might lower the viscosity enough to for it to drain out. The grease pictured says it has PTFE(teflon) in it. How that interacts with tiny roller brearings, I'm not sure.
If it were mine, I would pull the bearing carrier and reverse gear out and take a look, eventually pulling it all apart for a good cleaning

The oil vent screw is very small on those !----Only about a 3/16" diameter.-----Make sure you get this right.----Mistakes will be expensive.
