My father recently puchased a new to him 1990 16' Maxum bowrider with a 50 hp force outboard. First time backing it out of the driveway, he took a chunk off of the propeller. The boat doesn't have a tach, so we're a bit in the dark in that regard, but for that size of boat, with that kind of motor, anyone have a suggestion of where to start?

Wht's the max HP that boat is rated for, you plan boating lightly, medium light or fully loaded ? Post a pic of the damaged prop to have a look.

You could have the damaged prop repaired, or replace it with a new one of the same. Usually that would be a good starting place.
One concern. You say he was backing the boat out of a driveway when the prop was damaged.

Yup. Didn't trim up the motor, and a blade met concrete. Concrete won.

If the blade hit the concrete, the skeg most likely hit too. Which means the engine was being pushed towards the boat and and that force was being transferred to the transom. Inspect the engine bracket for damage, and the transom for cracking and flexing
