Hello,

I have a 1991 25 HP Mercury outboard with a 10 spline propeller part number 48 19640 A40L 13P that has a spun hub. I found a used 10 spline propeller that is off a 25 HP mercury with part number 48 19640 A10L 13P. What does A40L and A10L stand for? Can I use the propeller with the A10L in the part number?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

If you can swap a 10 HP prop for a 25 HP one, assume the 10 prop has less diam/pitch than the 25 HP one, a 25 prop will not fit or lug the engine badly having a larger pitch. A pity that haven't tached current shot prop before as currently loaded, will not know if same new one is a good performer or going for one with less pitch which is usual going from factory delivered prop.

Can you compare the props side by side? They are probably similar enough, but make sure if you can.

ok, from what I read, both are from a 25 hp motor, both are 10 spline.

A40L vs A10L refers to production numbers, or version numbers.
Both are virtually the same prop.
May be slightly different in unimportant ways, like thickness, weight, materials.

Both should fit and perform the same.

And both should fit 1986 and newer motors.
