I have a question that will be impossible to answer definitively but any general ideas will help. I have a 16 foot Qwest pontoon with a 25 hp Tohatsu. Max speed 8 mph. I am having a 50 hp Tohatsu installed this week. Any idea what speed I can expect with the increase in hp

Still something in the high teens I would expect. I installed a 50hp Honda on a very lightly loaded 16' toon last summer and it handled it fine - but it wasn't that fast.

I was hoping for something like that. Didn't expect a speedboat. I'm glad the expense for the new motor is worth it.

Some of the prop selector websites show an estimated top speed for various engine, prop and boat combinations. If you can find one and enter data to get an answer that matches your real world performance with the 25HP, it might give you a pretty good answer for the 50HP.

Check out the graph on page 3. I don't know how close it will get for a 16' 'toon, but for the bigger ones it's generally pretty close.
