I'm researching a 2008 Sun Tracker for possible purchase and noticed they what appears to be a stabilizer ridge along the outside of each pontoon. (not the wave deflector on the front of the pontoons). The newer models do not have this. So my question is... Is this a design that was later determined to cause problems? Should I have any concerns with this design?

Without seeing the size or location, I can just wonder if they are not lifting strakes, designed to help lift the 'toons up out of the water for less resistance, resulting in higher speeds on a given amount of power.

I just looked at a photo of a 2009 Sun Tracker 22 that is for sale. It appears to have the lifting strakes ahicks mentioned. As for why newer models may not have them, it may be a cost saving measure or perhaps the improvement in performance was not enough to increase sales.
