I and my wife plan on takeing our 47' Houseboat down to the Keys along the East Coast of Florida. From the Central area. Has anyone ever done this, and if so, what is the best way with a houseboat?...things to watch for, etc.....thanks

Re: To The Keys

I am a professional yacht delivery captain based in Ft. Lauderdale. I can tell you that the best way for you to go would be down Florida Bay. Hawks Channel (inside the reef) can quickly build to 4 feet on a NE blow and there are very few hidie holes to go to. But down Florida Bay, you have the lee of the Keys to protect you. You can also "go off the beaten path" and explore the numerous small islands that abound in Florida Bay. Don't forget to go to Flamingo at the bottom of the Florida Penninsula as well as Everglades City. Take plent of bug juice as well. Email me if you have futher questions.
