Lake Livingston Boating

Hoping to head up to Lake Livingston this weekend with the wife and kiddos to try out the tubing scene. Most folks say to go to Conroe, but damn, it can get rough out there, regardless of wind. Any suggestions on locations for some smooth water? I've also read that the stumps can be bad to the North, so I was hoping one (some?) of y'all could give a little guidance.
