James or York River

Does anyone boat on the James or York River in southeast Virginia? What are some good activities to do on those rivers? How is the chop; are they smooth or rough water? Are there any good restaurants or attractions that I can moore up to and visit?

I occasionally hit the James River at Richmond City and put in at Dutch Gap. For restaurants there is Boat House and Conch Republic. There is a cove called the gravel pits most go and hang out in. There's marinas up and down the river as well as other restaurants.

Normally I go to Lake Chesdin.
