75 hp yamaha 50/1 or 100/1??? its a 1995

I just got a boat today. the guy told me to run 50/1 yamalube. When I looked at the yamaha gas tank(which could have been from another boat) it said mix 100/1? do you all know anything? im takin it to the water tomm. Let me know somethin asap. I dont wanna burn it up on my first day out on it. Again. Its a 1995 yamaha outboard. 75 hp. Grey body/white prop. THANKS!!!

50/1.

Some makers authorized 100:1, for a while. They, later, found that the 100:1 did not leave enough residual lube on critical surfaces during lay ups.

That was OMC. Current Yamis use 100:1. Don't know when Yami made the switch, though.

Use 50:1 now, then research it with your local dealer. Too much won't hurt.

I have a 1985 5 horse Yammy that's 100:1, so if they switched, it was a while ago. Definitely agree, though, default to more oil rather than less until you can be sure.
