Yamaha control cable service

The throttle and shift cables on my '97 115 hp Yamaha have gotten a little stiff; how should I clean and lubricate them?

Ayuh,... Control cables are Replaced, Not serviced...

Thanks; I had the same problem with my other Yamaha, and a mechanic freed them up without replacing. But he's 300 miles away from this boat. Will call him for input.
