Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

I have progressive and like the policy but just so you know they do not cover rodent damage to a boat unless the rodent hits the boat. Had a pack rat chew threw a bunch of wiring on my boat and ended up paying all costs of repair. Found out that my home owners would not cover rodent damage either. Did ask progressive if I trapped the rat and threw it at the boat if it would be covered and was told no.

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

Let me ad me 2 cents here too about State Farm.
Crashed a Yamaha motorcycle..totaled and bought me another no prob...
Crashed one of my Harleys, fixed better than new with paint/fender/tank package...
Lowlife steals my Trans-Am...cut me a check before the 4 week waiting period was over knowing it was history..
Guy falls asleep and crashes into my almost new parked Monte Carlo...shop 6 weeks, came out like new..
Parking lot fender bender...fixed no problem..
I could go on, but after 30 years, NOBODY has come up with a better quote on insurance for my house, 3 boats, van, and 2 Harleys and some toys that only get insured for a months use, then fire/theft/vandelism coverage only.....NOBODY

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

Well here goes, my dad was my one of my SF agents first customers late fifties. Couple of claims no problem. I’ve been with them for 37 years, few claims no problem. Daughter on her first day of driving (her own license) minor accident, techno her fault, was found to be questionable by police and SF and was forgiven. A speeding ticket (kids) was forgiven. Good student discount applied and granted retroactively,
When state farm wanted to redistribute the clients of my agent when the agent retired and sold the business to his son, I told them that wasn't to happen. If a new agent was a must then a new insurance company would be too. The ink didn't dry before I was restored to my agent.
Needed a second mortgage, state farm was there with the best deal. Agent drove 60miles to deliver the paperwork. On a Saturday.
Insurance was an area I liked in college; couples of points to remember 1 always buy from a mutual and not a stock company. Similar to a co op verse a retail dealer. And insurance is a gamble, just like a casino, the larger the pool the lower the risk, like slots verse poker tables.
Liability for boat, 58 dollars a year, half of boat us
and i live in nj where state farm had to retructure do to our insurance problems.

Progressive. They have been competitive, and offer a declining deductable when no claims are made. In 4 years my collision deduct is $6.00. Quotes on line www.progressive.com or call 800-274-4499.

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

Nationwide for my 20' boat. Bought a 23' and they were way too high. Called State Farm and they had the best price on the 23' but were higher on the 20' boat. Now I have Progressive for the 23' because they offered more coverage at the same price as State Farm. Moral of story; shop around for the correct coverage and best price.

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

I've always had all my insurance through a single agent for more than 35 years. While I do get good service (they all know me by now), I do question whether it has gotten me any financial benefit compared to shopping for separate policies for home/boat/cars. I don't think there is necessarily any kind of discount for going through one agency or one company for all policies.

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

Just be sure to compare coverage. I have State Farm for home, auto and boat. The boat policy offered for my boat was far more comprehensive than anything else I found, especially the boat speciality insurance companies. The policy was $104 per year for a trailer queen w/stated value of $5000.

Now that I have my boating course certificate from the state of NJ, the policy premium drops by $16 year. (don't laugh, that will amout to $16,000.00 savings in boat insurance premiums in as little as 1000 years!)

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

My $.02. We had a tornado come through our area about 7 years ago. Some people got good service, some got screwed.
Long after the event, still had a lot of houses in shambles. They all had State Farm or Allstate spray painted on the front of the house. For many months.
Stories of insurance companies that insisted that the house was repairable even though the state engineers and the insurance companies own engineers declared the house a total loss.
Sobering sight to see those company names all over the extended neighborhood for up to 6 months or more.

Re: BOAT INSURANCE??

I have state farm and have noyhing bad to say.....I had $2000.00 worth of rods reels and a depth finder stolen off my boat then 12 days later done $3500.00 damage to the boat trying to avoid a jetski and both times I went into the office and was cut a check instantly.I have had 2 claims for my daughter...18 and 3 for my wife and I have 3 speeding tickets with one of those being wreckless driving.......so they are not too bad of a company...had them 14 years now and in different states.
