Hi, I have a 1958 14ft aluminum cadallic boat and I was wondering does anyone think that a 1958 Johnson Supersea Horse 35 HP Motor is too big to put on this aluminum boat?

Should be a nice match. We ran a 35hp Merc on a 14-foot Starcraft years ago, as well as a 45hp Merc on a 14-foot Lone Star. Both worked well...

there should be a plate near the morot mount that says they max hp rating. Is it a remot control motor or a hand control? Electric start? Is your boat a center consol, or right side steering wheel or what?

Nice Pics and projects. I think we will be alright with that Johnson on our aluminum boat then.

This is a remote control motor and is electric start. And the steering whell is on the right consol of the boat.

When I was a teenager, I had a 12' Starcraft with a 25 on the back. The rivets worked loose in two seasons.

I have a 1958 Wolverine 14', may be identical to yours, as they were same company then. Check my other posts. I run a 58 Super Sea Horse 35 on it and it is a very nice match. Cruises at low RPM very well, and planes out just right without over-powering it.

Actually selling mine as I'm looking to move to a center console so my kids can do more fishing.

wow sounds nice. I hope my boat runs that great with the sea horse on it as well. I will look at a 58 wolverine 14' to see what that looks like.

could it possibly be because it was a 12' boat, not a 14'? Or maybe because the back end of the boat wasn't 15-20in. long to sustain the pressure?

Here is some pictures of the boat with the motor for yall to see. Let me know your input of the boat and the motor combination and if yall think it will be a good match. ( Pics, just so you see a better view of what kind of aluminum boat and motor it is and how big that motor looks on this boat).

perfect match up, maintain that boat & motor properly, and your grand kids will be using it. 99% of the parts are still available for the motor. if you have a leak in the boat, "Gluvit" is the aluminum boats best freind.

Re: 14 Ft. Aluminum Boat With 35 HP Motor?

When I was younger my dad had a 60's starcraft aluminum 14' with a 40hp on it and I think it was perfect for that boat. I actually learned to ski behind that thing (of course I was about 11 years old so I was light enough for it to pull me out of the water). It did have a full interior and windshield though, so it probably weighed a bit more than yours does.

That combination looks terrific to me. Thanks for posting the photos. I predict that it will perform very nicely, too.
