I have a Sea Nymph 14R that I would really like to add a live well to, but i really don't have much to spend on one. I have heard of the kind that you add an aerorator to a cooler but i really want one that could be built in. I was thinking of cutting a hole in one of the seats but my dad says that it will affect the structural support for the hull. But Im not really sure. Should i do it or are there any other ways to put a livewell in. Thanks

Re: Add on Livewell?

Cutting a hole in the seat to install a live well tank shouldn't hurt the structural integrity of the boat provided a great deal of the horizontal material is not removed. However, just dropping in a tank is only part of the system. You need a live well pump that must have the intake below the water line which on your boat is at the back. That means the fill and drain tubes are exposed. I tend to agree with your Dad on this for three reasons. 1) cost 2) appearance/safety, and 3) destroying the value of the boat. Use a portable.

Post some pics of your boat's interior and transom. You'd need a pump with a thru-hull fitting at the transom, overflow drain & maybe a pump-out/aerator pump. plumbing's not that complicated. is there a deck you could put it under? My livewell's overflow drain is a hole in the side of the boat and the drain is a hole in the bottom. That's the factory design though - I'm not recommending you start drilling holes.

If you want to fix the structural problem, not that there would be one, you could run some aluminum angle across the seat on the inside, in the corner - front and back.

Bass, check out cabelas they are a little bit of money but they are portable and I am going to get one for my jon boat. If you cannot afford it now just save up and when you get it you will be glad you did not tear up your boat. Hey it is Christmas if you get and money it can go to your live well......d:) Plus Dad will be real happy you did not cut up your boat.d:)

I bought this boat about 6 months ago with my own money that earned, and built the entire interoir by myself. So no making fun of it because it gets the job done for fishing. :p d:)

Your Dad is Right again,.........

If you Cut the Seat,..... You'll loose hull Strength,......
And,......
I'll Bet that there's Floation Foam Inside those Seats,.......
If you take the Foam out to install a Baitwell,......
You'll be Removing a Safety Factor..........

i'm with the other Posters,..... Get a Portable Baitwell.......

I think that it is setup very well. I would get a portable livewell as well, Its not always the best to do things that you cannot reverse, been there done that. At 15 I think you are ahead of the game.

I asked how old you are because I am only 13 and it is interesting to meet other people my age on this forum.

Hey, we ain't making fun of it. You should see my little jonboat. Sitting on blocks right now. All the structural peices have been taken out for repairs. Hoping I get an outboard for christmas.
My larger boat is not in much better condition. Sitting on its nice new trailer, but interior is gutted other than the new deck. And engine is unknown condition. So at this point you are ahead because yours gets the job done for fishing. Mine don't.

Yeah, cannot wait to get the Lund in the water. I hear the largies are busting around the docks at my local lake.

Re: Add on Livewell?

i actually have been thinking about buying a 16 ft Fishing Machine or older lund, just curious if you could post some picts of your 16fter.

I just looked at your "stump jumper" (bassmaster mag term?) and when you are done that sounds like it will be a nice rig too.

I don't have any current pics of the Lund on my computer at this time. The only ones I have are from before we bought it. I will get my dad to email them from his computer so I can post them. I may even start a shareaproject link. Been meaning to start one for the better part of a month.

Re: Add on Livewell?

To Bassboy1 and Bass-a-holic. I think it is great to see young adults your age getting into boats. In todays world there is so much negitive stuff that Youngins get into and screw up their lives. I am 39, my father is 66, and he just bought his first boat last weekend. It is a 14' Starcraft with a 20hp Merc. Found it used for $850.00. As for making fun of the way your boat is laid out, HOGWASH !!!!! That boat looks GREAT !! I would jump in it and fish anytime. I have a question, is your trolling motor electric steer, and if it is, how do you like it ? My dad wants to buy one for his boat, but not sure what he wants. As for your livewell, I am in the same spot. I want to fish some small local torneys up here, but need a livewell to do it. Your best bet is to go with the portable type. Please dont cut up the seats in that beautiful boat. If either of you guys have questions or want to corrispond, my email is Dave524@ptd.net Thanks, happy holidays, and keep up the good work.

Are you planning to buy a water ready one, one that needs stuff like carpet and seats replaced or an all out restoration like mine? And, are you planning to take it out on the great lakes or ocean or just for smaller inland waterways and reservoirs?
And, I will get the pics soon. Right now I am having some trouble on my computer and my picture hosting site wont work on my backup hardware.
