Seem that when I picked up this big box of parts that went with the 1983 Mercruiser engine and outdruve assembly, I got some extra parts.
From what I've been able to figure out is that I have a 1983 pre-alpha one lower, it has the pre-load pin in the top of the vertical shaft. And its installed on an alpha one, pre gen 2 flat square top and narrow trim cylinder mounts on the aft end of the upper housing. From what I remember reading on here is the gen 2 trim cylinders' aft mounting is wider than the pre-gen 2 mounts are.
So, now the questions...1) at full retraction are the trim cylinders at their shortest length? 2) if not how much of the cylinder shaft should be sticking out? 3) if using the gen 2 cylinders, is widening the aft mount the only thing to do.
Thanks.
