That’s about as good as it gets ! Very nice !
I wish I didn’t have so many other projects going on now ..
Your work is inspiring me to clean up my machine and start on some of the upholstery projects
I’ve been putting off ..

Another backrest done . . .

This is the forward backrest to the U-shaped seating.

Here is a picture of the back side. Staples go about every 3/4"

Here is a picture of the 'skin' before it was installed.

The U-shaped seating cushions are done, except for a small end piece. So, I thought I'd put it all together to see what it will look like once installed in the boat.

Looks OK . . . a few things not 100%, but it will certainly do.

Next steps are the small end cap piece, which needs a total rebuild including the base material. Then it is onto the helm seat, which will be a bit on the challenging side, if these cushion were not enough

Ted..You have inspired me. Timed my machine today so it wouldn't skip stitches like it was and did some practice runs.

Going to reupholster my seats in the coming weeks. Looking at getting some of the Silvertex if you have seen that for some of the seating areas.

The Helm Seat . . .

This one is the holy grail of seats (it seems). There are 3 major sections that stack up and bond together to make the seat.

First the base . . .
.

.
Then the mid section . . .
.

.
I am thinking that I probably cannot duplicate the pattern exactly with any degree of quality. So, I am thinking about a few options to simplify the design, yet still have a good mix of the colors. I also plan on using the channeling fabric on the center of the mid-section, to match the scheme of the other seats. I plan on sketching up a few design options.

If anyone has some ideas, post away :thumb:

Anyway, this is the last of it . . . I saved the toughest for last.

Here are a couple of options that I have come up with so far . . .

Option #1 - More green
.
HelmSeat-2 copy.jpg .
.
An interesting thing is that Formula Boats upholsters the entire back side of the seat. Yet most of it is concealed by the U-shaped seating , as shown by the dotted lines.

.
Maybe I can do something very basic in the areas where it would be hidden.

Yes, I am using the sailrite foam as per your link. It help make the surface of the vinyl 'tight' . . . so you can bounce coins off of it when done. :)

Awesome...thanks.

Going to try this new fabric that I see a lot of the pros using for some parts of the seat. It's called Silvertex. It's vinyl but looks like fabric.

Not my photos or my work:

I would think less green because it's a dark color and will absorb more heat. Also just like it better

I think both options look pretty good, but I'd have to say, I lean toward the 'less green' camp, too.

OK - thanks guys. I'm working up a third option as well.

In the meantime, I made the top piece to the helm seat, since it was going to be pretty much a copy of what was there.

The inside corners need a little work. I can probably get some of the wrinkle out with steam.

I used some steam to take out the inside curve wrinkles . . .

I think I can do a little more steaming, but they look OK for now.
