Looking for info as to what to check on a 1978 Gibson 42 ft houseboat- boat looks good and no leaks were found on the top side- one transmission is not working , what should I look for on the hull, shaft seals and decks to look for prior leaks and damage - thx

Welcome aboard.

IMHO - hire a surveyor. With a boat like a Gibson you get all of the joys of homeownership and boatownership wrapped into one nice package. You can read HERE, but really I would hire a pro on a boat like that one.

Absolutely hire a professional to check it out thoroughly. That is a lot of boat and Gibsons are pretty much considered custom built boats so it is especially difficult to gauge pricing as well.Charlie

I wonder if this is the same gibson that several new members have been asking about for the past year?

Gibsons are all over on the impounds here in TN. Pretty common houseboat. I've looked at a couple of 'em over the years.
