Hi all, I just picked up a 1991 alumacraft phantom v170 and was wondering if any of you had experience on the best motor height for these boats. This isn't my first boat so I know that normally you want the cavitation plate about 1" above the hull. This motor (1991 mariner 115) is mounted about 1.5" below the hull as you can see in the picture and it does have a hydrofoil. I'm currently seeing a touch over 44mph on gps and was thinking if I raised motor I could get a little more speed. The only reason I can think of it being mounted so low is it is a very stern heavy boat (3 batteries and 20+ gallon tank) and it helps with the porpoising? Would love to hear anyone's thoughts or experiences.
