hard angled back has it in the early 80's guessing Crusader

what does your title/registration say it is?

I'm shopping around and someone emailed me that pic. They said its a 1990 crestliner vision 20' but of course that's way off since vision is a aluminum fishing boat.

Your HIN should be able to tell you year plus some extra info... normally the last two numbers are the year.

jbcurt00 , let me take that back, lol. I looked at the next post. For sure that boat looked newer than 1966. I thought early 90s.

The windshield is flat in the '80 and curved in the '90. The flat to curved happened sometime between 1988 and 1990. The 1989 catalogs don't show a Crusader series, however the '88 featured a flat windshield and stern. The catalogs only go back to 1985, but the evolution from a flat, squared off boat to a curvier model can be seen in the '88 pics and the '90 posted earlier.

littleape's is a 1990 or newer model. Title and/or HIN will give the dating.

Post 1972 boats, ^^^ yep.

not sure what you mean. 1972 boats or older don?t have a HIN? But this boat is obviously newer or am I missing something, lol.

I said post 1972 , which would mean boats built after 1972 have HINs which decode as you suggested, merely as a reference for anyone (at a later date) finds this topic and tries to ID their boat w a HIN it may not have or that diesnt decode as you suggest.......

For reference I own at least 6 boats that have transom stamped HINs, which are titled w that HIN, and none of them decode w the last 2 digits as a year because they are all pre-72 boats.

I never suggested that you were incorrect for the boat this topic is about or suggested that this boat wasnt post 1972, nor that it was pre-72......

Those hard angle on the wind screens and some body lines were popular from the early 80's to mid 90's, similar to my 95' StarCraft 190. I know I've been off by 15 years guessing at times. A good look at the interior gives a better idea as to age, engines not so much as they are often swapped out on older barges. Or simply look at the upper right side of the transom for the last 2 numbers on the ID tag, that easy if it's still intact. We have a 15' 70's era StarCraft in the shop that does not have the last 2 numbers on it. Could very well be pre 72'. I wish I could post a pic here, what a nice little clean boat, in the same family since new.
