I have a 1954 Alumacraft Deep C with a 1960 Mercury 400 on the back. Is it worth getting it appraised and insured as a collectable? I know the boat is only worth what somebody is willing to pay and old tin boats do not have the desireability of other vintage boats but I know that if I were to try to replace the boat and motor it would be a significant cost in time and $.

Talk to your agent about insuring for agreed value, a common method for insuring collectibles.

I have agreed value policies for both my boats. Doesn't matter if it's a collectible or not.

I have an agreed value policy as well, and after all these years the value is probably double what the boat is worth on the open market. The yearly premium is also quite stiff.

This year I looked at other insurers and found one that would have cut my premium in half for the same coverage. Butttt..... They required an appraisal and survey.
