Thinking about going down to the skyway fishing pier never been there in all the years I've lived in the Tampa area has anyone fished from the piers? I should probably just go by boat but it's a 3 1/2 hr run one way

The fishing is hit or miss and you have to watch the tides. Better fishing off the old submerged bridge. Or about 3 miles off ahore, just a bit south of Eggmont

Plenty of local fishing reports. Hit them up (just google)

Ok, thanks for that. Maybe I'll just make the run down to Pas A Grill marina and spend a day or to if it ever stops raining

I could be getting the piers mixed up , Believe its the old pier by the SKYWAY BRIDGE , partial fishing pier one side , fishing pier on the other side , Middle gone , When they built the new bridge left partial of old bridge for fisherman
I would drop wife at Hard Rock Casino , Drive too pier , drop a line waiting for that Call , Lost my money pick me up ,
Having a boat ( why I am on this forum ) driving up long pier trying too get close too end, beach chair , rod , buying bait at the pier bait shop , SO SIMPLE , Falling asleep in chair , Catching a fish was a plus but would wake me , ( HEHEHE)
Few years ago I went , big difference from time before , in poor condition, concrete was crumbling , large wholes viewing water from concrete floor
Always thought it was a neat place

those are the north and south skyway fishing piers

fishing from the pier is like fishing from a boat under the pier.... hit or miss....depending on tide, temp, and bait.

Tide is what it is all about, I would never consider fishing without consulting the tides. There is too many awesome spots in the area to consider fishing off the pier with many members of the general public. Drive 15 minutes and wade fish around Emerson Point, much more visual stimulating.

Was down just last week could see the bridge from where we were fishing. Figured out the proper bait shrimp to beer ratio. 3 dozen shrimp to a 6 pack of beer.
