I have a new Naden 14 ft aluminum boat. I could use some advise on how best to mount a Walker Lakemaster manual down rigger. I was thinking either to get a pedestal mount (with swivel) and mount it on the bench seat in front of the rear seat, or alternatively, is there a good clamp mount that would attach to the gunnel. I am worried that a bench mounted pedestal might not be that stable. I would welcome ideas from experienced anglers and if you have any suggestions on specific mounts, please be sure to include links etc. The other option is to mount a board on Eagle Claws. Thanks so much... happy fishing!

Hi mgdad. Welcome to iboats.

If you can figure out how to post a picture or two someone might be able to offer some insight.

Or maybe a link to the boat you have.

I have no experience with down riggers.

I used to have a 14 ft'r very similar to yours. I didn't trust the gunwales & wanted to operate the rigg'r while sitting down & controlling the motor. (not a very wide boat). So I made my own aluminum bracket and attached it to the seat and the gunwale then mounted the rigg'r on top of it:
