Re: Favorite Lure

For fresh water I like a white spinner bait. It works in any clarity of water.:)

Re: Favorite Lure

Probably my favorites are good old fashioned worms.

Up until now Ive been a shore fisherman.. At the beach I chuck the line out with some split and let it sit, waiting for the unsuspecting river cat, or smallie that has the guts..

If Im in unknown waters, I'll throw on skitterpop, or a jitterbug, then ill move onto a rapala minnow. If Im daring, I like the good old red devil spoon, or even a 3/8 Little cleo glow in the dark, or brass/red combination.

Re: Favorite Lure

The jig and pig is my goto for bass fishing.

Anything Cotton Cordell for eyes.

Tubes and worms for just about everything else.

Working wonders for over 75 years, the Lucky 13. I'm also partial to Bass-orenos and basically any other large, loud pieces of wood that I can throw into exceptionally still water at dusk, preferably in an out of the way cove somewhere in southern Ontario.

Re: Favorite Lure

I take a multi-species approach , rarely will I specfically target a single species .

E.G.

Line out deep with fresh shad for cat .
Line with minnow under a float , for crappie/catfish/bream .
Fan cast to cover/structure for bass , changing lures as I work the water column .
Find a productive pattern and tweak my presentation (color / size/ retrieve..) .
If I cant find a pattern , find a different spot and repeat .
I rarely get skunked .

I don't have a favorite lure , but I have a few that I will not leave home without .
1 Tube jigs , all sizes and patterns .
2 Mepps spinners , again , sizes and pattern/color are important .
3 Rebel crayfish , deadly on everything , in all waters I have fished .
4 The classic Rattle Trap .
5 Old school Rapalas .
6 Cast net . Feed em' what they are already feeding on . :D

Patterns / colors :
Shad colors
Crayfish patterns , whether hard baits or plastics .
white/chatruese , for maribous and plastics .
Don't forget small black twister tails / worms .

Re: Favorite Lure

My favorite lure would be the spinnerbait. I also liek to use flukes, and swimbaits. But the spinnerbiat is my go to bait.

Re: Favorite Lure

These catch some serious fish, I sometimes don't even bother taking anything else. Both lures are from macks lures. I use primarily green color on the wedding ring spinner for trout and ball up a marble sized piece of rainbow powerbait to cover the hook while lake trolling for rainbow trout. The wally pops have the perfect bouyancy for rigging behind a bottom bouncer when trolling for walleye. I prefer the fire tiger color on the top left of the picture and simply rig a big ol crawler on the 2 hooks. FISH ON!!!

Re: Favorite Lure

Gotta go with a SR7 ShadRap in silver/black if I need a "go-to" lure.

Re: Favorite Lure

Have you ever heard of a flickerspinner?

My father gave me my first one when I was six while fishing for trout. I think they quit making them in the early 70's. I've never had a lure work so good for trout.

About 15 years ago there was an auction selling the contents of a hardware store. Wouldn't you know they had 3 cards of flickerspinners. I got them all.

Thanks for the link Flathead.

Gonefishie. Not really slow at all. I just use them as you would a roostertail or such; if fishing streams or rivers, the current does the work. The ones I have are 1/8th ounce; so they are about the size of a #8 hook. The 1/16th ounce looks to be like a #12 hook.
