Re: Bait traps

I don't know the difference between the two, but I guess I'm referring to a process similar to minnow trapping.

Open water like a lake, or running water like a river or tidal pool. Fresh water shrimp or salt? Another good bait for fresh water that you can seine (like for minnows) is the hellegrammite (sp). Put your net downstream from where there are many loose rocks. Shuffle and turn over the rocks and the baits will drift down to your net.

Thank you for your reply. Saltwater shrimp are usually caught in the area I live in with a cast net. The canal is pretty calm and has a steady current most of the time. What bait do I need to to attract them? What do they normally feed?

I used to live in Mary Esther FL on the panhandle. You're right about the cast nets. That was the most common way to catch them. I'd ask around your area and get some advice from the locals on the best location to catch them. I don't know of a bait for shrimp. I think they eat plants and debris in the water.
