My 1988 Suzuki DT115 was grinding more than usual going in and out of gear last year and eventually would not shift fully into reverse. I went to take the boat out Saturday and it wouldn't shift into forward or reverse. I unhooked the shift cable so I could shift it by hand under the hood but it still wouldn't fully go into gear. It grinded and went in and out of gear. I took the lower unit apart and the only thing I can find wrong is the clutch dog will not move back and forth freely when the pushrod is pressed. The lower part of the shift rod assembly has a deep groove in it but I don't know if this is worn or normal. Any ideas on what to check?
