I have a 1987 55 hp Suzuki 2 stroke. I took it out on the water the two days prior with no problems (ran great), but when I put it in the water yesterday, I couldn't get it started. I made sure bulb was hard, choked, then turned the key. It "turned over", but as soon as I let the key fall back to the running position, the motor just died. In addition, when I pulled up the idle lever next to the controls (to give the motor gas), it didn't do anything - the motor just died as if it wasn't getting anything. Any thoughts?

Welcome to iBoats :) ..... so it does start, but then dies straight away? Or does it not take at all? IT's a little confusing ...

Not sure about your engine but my 87 DT30 has a manual and automatic choke.
Maybe your choke is stuck since it seems to be firing?
Here's my starting procedure:
Never use auto choke.
With cold engine, pull manual choke lever out.
Turn key and motor will fire but stall.
Push in manual choke lever.
Start motor.
Good luck and welcome.
