225hp 1990 yamaha outboard no top end revs

Hi, i have a 1990 225hp yamaha on a 1850 bullet ski boat, it seems to have no top end speed/REVS i have cleaned all carbs and checked floats and seems to be working fine, i have replaced plugs and fresh fuel/oil, changed jetts. i ran her in the weekend without the coweling on and the top right carb was spitting fuel back out the butterflies, in quite large qtys. im starting to think this maybe something to with the airflow needles etc.. can anyone please help?

If she is spitting back then you have a problem with the reed valves.

ok so i have replaced the reeds etc, still loosing alot of fuel from carbs.... any idea where to start next?

Take a dollar bill and hold it up to the offending carb. If it tries to suck the bill in, the reeds are OK. If it blows the bill in and out then there is still a problem with the reeds.

ok, will try this, was also thnking it could be something to do with the primer solenoid faulty?

Carbs suck, not blow. If one was flooding then it should be sucked back into the engine.
