suzuki 2001 140 four strokes no reverse

Hello!! I just bought a Grady White with 2 of these babies in it and for some reason one of them shifts in to reverse and after 2700 rpms it starts to do a weird stump like it had a rev limiter or something similar!. Both engines were not shifting in to gear and after a mechanic worked on one for a wile the one acting up did go in to gear but I still have this issue. The other one I have not tinkered with yet but decided to write here to see if any one has had this or a similar issue!. Both transmissions have been taken a part and are in perfect conditions! IN forward they are working perfect! I am assuming it just needs more adjustment!
