  • 15 HP 2-stroke yamaha dies under throttle

Idling around the marina, the engine doesn't seem to have a problem (it is on a 4-person RIB). Head out onto Lake Michigan, get the dinghy up on plane at about 80-90% throttle, run it for about two minutes or so, and the engine just dies. No sputtering or anything. It is as if the fuel is simply cut off. Sit for a bit and I can then start it again using the choke, but is very tempramental as I limp back in. I tend to have to alternate between choking and not. Often dies multiple times while limping in.

Thoughts? It has new spark plugs gapped properly and I've checked the fuel filter.

To me when you said having to choke it makes it sound like your fuel lines aren't tight enough which sucks in air. Have you checked your fuel connections? Can you make the bulb hard? Have you cleaned the carbs?
