I have a 2009 Yamaha 9.9 hp 2 stroke. Yamaha offers a 15 hp also what is the difference parts wise to make mine 15hp . I have checked the online parts fiche & don't see any diiference in part numbers on carb, intake, piston,CDI box, head or gasket. Just wanting a little more out of it. I did the samething with my 88 Evinrude 25 hp making it a 35 hp with a simple carb change but I can't find the difference in this Yammy 9.9 vs 15 .
Anyone have an idea?

i was looking for the same thing with my 9.9? I was told you need a reed valve assembly and carb. Please post anything you find. I use our Yamaha on a 10 ft Achilles hard bottom and we need a little more HP to get on plane with 4 adults. I know I could get a 15 4-stroke but we also take apart the engine and boat to store on the transom. 4-strokes are a little too heavy.

the only differences between the 9.9 and the 15 hp are the decals and the reed valve assembly. The assembly costs around $45 from bestboatparts.com and is easily installed by a tech. Total cost is much cheaper than the cost difference between the motors.
