I have a 1996 Yamaha 225hp precision blend and am having ignition problems. When I turned the key yesterday, it slowly cranked (probably half a revolution) and then stopped. I turned the key again- nothing but a faint click coming from the engine. Suspecting a dead battery I checked the voltage at the terminals- 12.8v. Put on the battery charger overnight just to be sure.

This morning with a full battery I tried the switch again- nothing. When I turned it to the ON positon, my guages lit up and the fuel sender registered as usual. After I tried to crank it, the gauges including the fuel level indicater went completely dead. Several mintues later I turned the key to the ON positon again- this time the guages lit up but again after I tried to crank it (nothing but a faint click again) the guages died. Interestingly, the power trim/tilt doesn't work either- no sound.

My lights, trim tabs, etc. all appear to be working well and strong.

Could this be the ignition key switch?

Any advice would be appreciated- my parents are flying in tonight and my Dad is dying to go fishing tomorrow. Help!

Thanks
