The 2007 140 suzuki four stroke ?

Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the 2007 140 suzuki 4 stroke . I have heard that 4 strokes have lots of maintance to do on them ! valve and chain adj. ect. I have also heard that when salt water used it plays hell on the valve seats ! True ? Thanks JJB

Hi,

Suzuki DF140 is very reliable 4-stroke. It has been on the market for about 4 or so years.
I do not know if they have done any enhancement to the DF140 to 2007 season.

I have a Yamaha F115 4-stroke (I have used it 4 seasons). Yes it is some more maintenance manuvers involved for a 4-stroke compared to 2-stroke but it is no problem really. I had a 2-stroke before.

Valve adjustment - easy.
Chain adjustment - as far as I know the chain in Suzuki outboards do not need adjustment, it is self adjusted.

Salt water and valve seats - not heard of that before and even if that could be a problem I think it is very rare.
Not many 4-stroke owners seems to have problem with this if you read in the forums here at iboats.

Suzuki DF140 is probably one of the most reliable 4-stroke out there in this class.
Suzuki in general is considered reliable, read here:

Just remember it is not in 150 hp class outboard, it is more like a beefed up 115 hp class engine.

There has never been a recall on a DF140.

Hi beaufort bob,

No, I use Yamaha F115 4-stroke myself.
But I have used Suzuki also, had a Suzuki DT65 2-stroke (1991) until 2003 when I sold it.
