All,
On a 1999 Suzuki, 115 HP 2stroke outboard; approx 550 hours on it: not sure anyone can help, but here goes: I was flushing my outboard with the boat on the trailer, when I noticed a strange sort of sound from the engine. It was not coming from the powerhead, but seemed to be coming from near the through-prop exhaust. It sounded like a metallic clanking -- no pattern to it, just a sharp sort of metal-on-metal sound not constant, but an occasional rapping. The engine is a 1999, runs like a champ, shifts fine. I checked the gear oil - looks fine. I also checked the prop shaft just in case there were some fishing line caught on it -- it was fine also. I guess I could pull the drain plug and check for metal flakes, but isn't it normal to have a little bit of that on the magnetized plug? If the exhaust were going to go, would it start making unusual noise?
Thanks very much.
Joe
