I bought the pump kit for my Yamaha 250 (1997) to pump in the lower unit oil. Now I have a 1988 Yamaha 130 and the screw in fitting to attach the plastic hose to does not fit. Is the thread size different between the old 130 and my 1997 250?

nope.
both are 8mm.
both use the same plug and gasket. you have to buy the adapter that fits between the pump and a yamaha. most of the pumps have a 3/8ths thread.

I understand, but what fit my Yamaha 250 does not fit my Yamaha 130, makes no sense. I'll have to take a closer look as it starts to thread and stops hard, perhaps a burr or something even though drain plug goes in out smoothly.

could be some one has heli-coiled one of the motors and used a differnt plug. the top and bottom plugs on both engines share the same gasket and thread size, or they did when they left Japan.
