Suzuki Remote Control

I think my remote control went out on me. Not only did the key not operate the engine (no sound at all when engaged), but a piece of metal broke off from the arm that engages the engine and causes it to go into forward and reverse gears. We launched and nothing. After about 10 times, it engaged and started IN GEAR. We almost ran up onto dry land. Then nothing. Finally, I was able to use a screwdriver and get it started on the engine itself - and it took off IN GEAR. So I am thinking a neutral safety switch and a new arm. Incidentally, once we got going, we could increase forward speed, could not go into reverse and could not go into neutral. Any thoughts? If I need a used remote control, any thoughts on where and how much? I am missing out on our fine fishing weather and am missing out on limits of crappie!

Re: Suzuki Remote Control

break it down into several parts.
Are the gearshift and throttle cables lubricated and operating freely. Disconnect the engine end and test. also test control box only starts in neutral and will only move into fwd and reverse when idle up lever is at idle. These are probably all adjusted in the control box itself. Then reattach to engine then check that neutral on the gearbox = neutral on engine. If you don't have a book check your local library or buy one it makes it oh so much clearer.
Good luck

Sirlespat - What about the piece of metal that broke off from the handle? Shouldn't that have something to do with my problem?

Re: Suzuki Remote Control

There's been a couple of used Suzuki controls on ebay lately and Brown's Point Marina handles new Suzuki parts online (brownspoint.com).
