1986 Yamaha 90 hp. It will still run but it does not run at full power. Also it will not idle. There is water coming out around one of the spark plugs. The water jacket around the spark plug is rusted. The cylinder that is affected is still running. Is the cylinder head and the water jacket one piece or are they separate? Any thoughts on what is wrong and how it can be fixed? Thanks.

It sounds like the head is cracked to me.

Yes, it sounds like the head is cracked. But, heads usually crack due to overheating. So, make sure your engine cooling system (impeller in the lower unit) is working properly before you fire up your fixed motor and run it. You might be lucky and just have a blown head gasket. Anyway, the head must be removed from the engine and examined.

I'm not sure about a Yamaha, but the on Mercurys water can leak around the spark plugs and it will just be a bad gasket. Take your plugs out and remove the plate that covers the exhaust and water ports and see if it is just a bad gasket. It shouldn't effect the way you motor runs even leaking.<br />Jabo
