Hi all - I have removed the power head with flywheel and all still attached from my 04 Yamaha 15hp 2 stroke.

I am putting new rings on it (and checking overall condition) but am unsure how to record the timing once removing flywheel and timing components.

I am used to car engines .. what do I need to do before taking things apart to ensure it goes back together correctly?

I've referred to my repair/service manual that describes an engine rebuild but not the timing.

thank you!

Take pictures of the carb and timing advance with throttle grip resting at mim and at max throttle grip position, put same when rebuilding the motor. Service Manuals usually doesn't show the carb and timing advance synch with pics, if need to measure distances of different rods related to timing use a vernier tool and record the data..
