2/200 HPDI excessive oil usage and idle problems.

Pair of 200 yams.
Both run fairly good at high speeds.
Stbd. motor uses 3X the oil the other does.
I haven't looked at the linkage on either motor.
How to adjust or check the oil systems?

Haven't done a compression test yet.

The port motor trolling speeds: it starts at 750-800 then increases to 1500 on it's own.
Sometimes it goes back down, most times no. ???
The owner bought used and doesn't know much about the history?? :(

I’ve run them...never worked on them.

is the onboard oil tank full? Oil filters changed?

Yes always full.
Why would an old filter cause too much oil usage?
Your assuming the one using “more” oil is the problem.

How did you quantify usage?

If you where actually using 3x oil you would be fouling plugs. Oil usage showing up on the plugs?

Drain and clean both tanks. Check to make sure onboard tanks fill with manual switch

Oil pump isn’t prone to failure, put they do wear out.

Hi

not sure about your particular engine, but I do know that some Yamaha 2 stroke engines automatically default to full bore oil flow when the cable that operates and controls it snaps. It’s spring loaded to naturally default to full flow if it snaps. Worth a check.

Worst case is that your other engine isn’t using enough.

The reason for the oil use is the stbd. motor uses 3x the amount of oil than the other motor.
The boat is one of the ones taking supplies to the Bahamas.
Both run great but one uses lots of oil compared to the other.


The owner says it uses 3X more.
He could be exaggerating??


The control rod is connected, the end is cracked but not loose.

Anyone know how to setup a new pump?
Or check the adjustments?

Gonna add a few more things to the problem.
Twin Yamaha 200 2005 HPDI one motor uses 2-3 time the oil the other does??Comp on this one is L 130-155-140 R 150 all 3

The plugs on this motor, they were fairly dirty due to the extra oil. #3 and #6 had a bunch more carbon.

Some one said if that's happening the seals on the pump and driven gear might be bad letting oil in the motor??
Wi it need a new pump??

One at idle revs up and down and then stays up until the shifter is moved?? Someone said if the comp was off it would do that?
Comp on this engine is 150x6
Any idea?Any help?

The erratic idle was fixed when the carbon was removed from the sensor/heater assy. (EGR)
