I removed the lower unit and changed the impeller and gear oil. All went well and I put the motor back together. Now when I go to reverse it engages, then if I give it much throttle it grinds really bad. If I go to neutral and back to reverse it will engage again, but grinds any time I throttle it up.

When I removed the lower unit I made note of where the gear selector was and put it back as close as I could to the same adjustment. Any idea why this is happening now all of a sudden? The engine never had problems before.

Also it is remote controlled, no tiller.

Thank you for your help.

Remove lower unit, find neutral on lower unit by turning shift shaft while turning prop shaft....then put remote in neutral, replace lower unit and you should be good to go...hopefully
