Hello Gents,
I have a 2008 9.9 4 stroke High Thrust motor that i bought cheap to use on my sail boat. History unknown.
On further inspection (never tried to start, i just pulled the plugs and tried to pull the motor through a couple revolutions) i found that the lower exhaust valve gets stuck open. I can pull the valve closed but only with a considerable amount of force. After some soaking in penetrating oil and even some sea foam there is no improvement. This tells me i need to pull the head.
Can the head be pulled with power head in or should i pull the whole power head.
I know this motor was used in saltwater so i'm guessing the water jackets need to be checked and cleaned so i'm leaning towards pulling the whole power head.
I'm also guessing that the head was overheated and is the reason the valve is getting stuck.
Any advice welcome.
