2001 OX 225 txrz. Starter spins fine when cold. When hot, the starter kicks out before engine starts. Slightest little pop of combustion and out it comes.

Check the bendix Gear on top of starter...maybe a drop of oil on the bendix helix so gear slides up like it's supposed to during starting.

I would think also that once it pops out, it's now spinning to fast to reengage

No, no.-----The Bendix pops up because the starter goes from being stopped and spins up ( inertia pops it up ) to top speed.-----So quick that you do not see it.------When the motor fires it kicks that Bendix down and the starter just spins at top speed.-----Nothing there to kick the Bendix up.------So there is a problem with the motor not starting properly when warm.------Would not hurt to take starter apart to inspect brushes , bushings , bearings either.-

Was thinking the same thing. Nothing wrong with the starter itself, was thinking it may be the clutch gear. Kind of a poor design with no solenoid to hold the starter gear in to the ring gear. This motor does have a hot start issue as well, and this centrifugal clutch gear is not helping matters

Poor design ????-----This same set up works on millions of motors.----It is your motor that is not restarting properly.

Poor design, like no solenoid. If this was such a hot design how come it's no longer used ? 4 strokes evolved and use the solenoid just like every vehicle on the road and all I/O's. If 1 cylinder pops, out it comes,

Like old 2 strokes...right ? No issue if it hits on all cylinders. Probably why they incorporated the solenoid, in case it doesn't hit on all holes.
