Hello so confused , got my Yamaha 60 hp serviced today , he says I have a rattle on outboard , reckons could be crankshaft bearing , anyone heard of this plus how do you know when outboard is overheating. , your tell tale stream only says your water pump working and not cooling your engine down

Welcome aboard Daveym, great having you as a new member. :welcome:

" I have a rattle on outboard" can be so many things. From the head to the foot of the engine there are bearings. Anyone of them can be going bad. You need to locate the rattle and about where it is to local the culprit. Could even be something loose attached to the engine, like bolts loose, etc. So need to do a little investigation work and see what you can find and get back with us. JMHO!

2 ways to test for overheating:

With an infrared temperature gun, or;

Placing your hand on the cylinder head(s)...you should be able to hold it there for a three count without feeling uncomfortable.
