I’m currently replacing the ignition switch on my Yamaha V-Max 150. It had an aftermarket switch already on it but was giving me trouble. I thought I had replaced the wires as they were but I’m having issues. Here’s the wiring info for the switch...
Red - Battery
Black - Magneto ground
Yellow w/ Red Stripe - Solenoid
Black w/ Yellow Stripe - Magneto
Purple - Ignition
Yellow w/ Black Stripe - Choke

Coming off the pigtail of the harness...
Red, black, yellow, blue, white, green, brown, pink

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Wiring color codes or the wiring diagram should be in your service manual for the motor you have.
or you can look up Yamaha wire colors

we have no idea what motor you have because you failed to tell us along with what aftermarket switch or what kind of problem you are having

The switch I am using is the Sierra MP41070-2 with the color codes listed above. My motor is a 1988 Yamaha V-Max with color codes listed above coming out of the wiring harness. My problem is to which of the wires from the switch to the harness do I connect? I’ve got the red, black, and yellow w/ black stripe figured out.

I connected the purple wire to the yellow wire on the harness and the motor idles excessively high and errant. When I disconnected it it straightened out.
