My 2000 Yamaha F115 Starts and run perfect but I just noticed the starter gear sticks up in the fly wheel only while it’s running. When I turn the Motor off the starter gear drops back down ?? Never had this happen before. Any ideas how to fix it before I replace the whole starter ??

Remove the starter and inspect the bendix helix and gear....maybe a drop of oil on the helix and some grease on flywheel gear....

Don't remove it....just ensure it climbs up and down the helix like it's supposed to....if not, and after cleaning and lubrication yo

are you sure the start relay was not staying energized and holding the starter engaged
