Hi guys, i got this little boat andi think the previous owner replaced the motor but never got the tach hook up. Its It's a 2008 yamaha 50TLR. There are two set of wiring from the throttle box that are capped off. Does the old tachometer work with this engine or do i need a Yamaha tach? Thanks

how are we suppose to know what tach you are speaking of?

the green, yellow, black, and red are for the tach /gauges.

the other set is for remote control of the tilt&trim

The old tachometer more than likely will work with the Yamaha motor.

how about anyone else
but should still work, but that is just my guess

Am i correct that black is negative, blue is for light on the old tach? On the Yamaha control i have black, red, yellow and green, so i suppose black go to black, what about the other three?

Red is 12V +,
yellow is key on power,
green is tach signal,
& black should be ground/negative.

what to hook them to depends on the tach.
see if you can find marks on terminals or a wiring diagram for the make and model of the tach
