There should be a Production Date Label located on the starboard side mounting bracket.

If you cannot find that production date plate, boscoe99 can give you a date from the serial #

need to make a smaller pic

is this a US model?
if before 2005 it should have a 4th letter
is there a 4th letter on the model?

Here is something I found on newer than 2005 motors, but did not find any more info

*Indicates manufacturing date. For example, "(0408)" indicates that the motor would have a manufacturing date after April of 2008. If you do not know the manufacturing date you can find this information on the same label as your motor model and serial number.

**Indicates a range of serial numbers that falls into this category. Knowing your serial number (also known as your “Primary ID” is important in making sure you get the correct parts for your motor as parts may change from one model year to the next. You can find your serial number on the sticker on your bracket following the engine’s model code.

I believe it shows up under 0407
so that would be April 2007

manufactured somewhere between 4/07 and 4/08

Yamaha stopped using model years in 2005. In 2005 your motor would have been a 50TLRD. The letter D denotes it as being a 2005 model year motor.

A 50TLR could have been made in 2005 all the way up to 2009 when they were discontinued here in the USA.

As noted, there should be a placard on the side of the motor that indicates the month and year of manufacture. You use that to find the correct parts catalog for the specific motor.

Another way is to simply type the engine ID into the search box at Yam's website. It will then take you to the parts catalog for the specific motor. See example below. This indicates the motor was made during or after April 2007 but before April of 2008.

As it was stated, there are not any more year models.after 2005
Just a range of year of manufacture.
Use the Id number to look up parts when needed

Thanks for all your help guys, i believe it's a 2008. Thanks

What does "it's a 2008" mean? If you are thinking that it is a 2008 model Yamaha that is not the situation.

The sticker will simply indicate the month and year of manufacture. It does not mean that it is a 2007, 2008, 2009,... motor.

People have in their minds how they think it should be and for some reason cannot seem to accept how it is.

Thanks for all your help guys, i believe it's a 2008. Thanks

Just so you know, there were many different 50TLR's build during 2008. A 50TLR built early in 2008 can be different from a 50TLR built late in 2008.

You have to go by the month and year of manufacture to make sure you get the correct parts.
