I’m new to Yamaha’s, always had Evinrude, but I just picked up a 5 hp 2 stroke. The serial number says 5MSHY which appears to be a 2000 but the manufacture sticker says 1999. Looking for a service manual and not sure what to get. Any ideas?

welcome aboard

just like your car, a model year of product may have been manufactured late the prior year

use the model number of the motor when buying a factory service manual.

Yep, most every automobile or truck I have ever owned was actually made in the year before the stated model year. You get the service manual for your specific model. A 5MSHY. No need to worry about when the motor was made. It might be that the service manual was written and published one or more years before 1999 even.
